SUMMARY:Polar Bear Plunge
DESCRIPTION:The 2023 Stoddard Polar Bear Plunge Invitational is a sanctioned RCSL meet open to all RCSL swimmers.  Each swimmer selects the events he/she wants to swim.  This is a great opportunity for swimmers to participate in events of their choosing\, and there are 100 m distances for each stroke\, including a 100 m Individual Medley event where a swimmer does one length of each stroke during the race.  Your swim/time trials entry gets you: \n\nAccess to the pool grounds and the best view of the Tennessee Valley\nMako Cafe (pancakes\, sausage\, bacon\, hotdogs\, chips\, candy\, coffee\, water\, and soda) Cash only\nIst Place Athletics Booth\nAccess to sand volleyball area\nAccess to tennis courts\n\nParking will be available behind the Monte Sano Methodist Church.  You may walk through the yard to enter the pool grounds. \n \n3609 Georgetta Dr SE\, Huntsville\, Alabama 35801 \nSwimmers may swim up to 4 events of their choosing. \nWarmups begin at 08:00AM and the meet will start at 09:15AM. \nEntry fees are due to Gina Glass no later than 1 June.

SUMMARY:Stroke Clinic: Breaststroke

SUMMARY:Stroke Clinic: Butterfly
DESCRIPTION:Butterfly is the second hardest stroke to learn how to swim\, just behind breaststroke.  It’s by far the most physically demanding\, so learning to swim an efficient butterfly is essential to success with the stroke!  Cookiecutter and Lemon sharks will work on “dolphin” kick and get introduced to the butterfly arm motion.  Leopard\, Hammerhead\, Tiger\, Great White\, and Mako sharks will focus on stroke efficiency with drill work to develop butterfly arm posture\, promote good breathing\, and establish a two-kick rhythm.

SUMMARY:2024 Swim Team Tryouts!
DESCRIPTION:We’re ready for another stellar swim season this summer! \nIf your swimmer is 10 years old or younger and is not a returning Sherwood swimmer\, he or she will attend tryouts.  The requirement for making the team is that your swimmer must be able to swim 1/2 the length of our 25 m pool unassisted.  We will have coaches in the water to help your swimmer if needed.  After completing the minimum requirement of swimming 1/2 the length of the pool\, we will do a little bit of additional work with your swimmer to assess competency in the water so we can place him/her in the appropriate practice group. \nIf your swimmer is older than 10 years or is a returning Shark\, you do not need to attend tryouts.  Instead\, you can join us for the first practice of the season\, which will be right after tryouts! \nWe look forward to seeing you at tryouts\, and GO SHARKS!!!

SUMMARY:Time Trials
DESCRIPTION:First and foremost\, Time Trials are used to give new swimmers and swim parents an opportunity to get a feel for the flow of a meet.  Time trials also determine who will swim for points in the first meet of the season.  And there’s another really important thing we get out of time trials: we run trials similarly to the way we run a meet (it’s actually closer to an Invitational).  So it’s a great opportunity for our parent volunteers to get a dry-run in before the real thing! \nIf you miss time trials\, it’s okay!  We’ll find an opportunity during practice to get some times.  Click the SIGN UP NOW button to sign up for the time trial meet. \nHEAT SHEET

SUMMARY:Polar Bear Plunge Invitational
DESCRIPTION:For Dual Meets and the RCSL City Meet\, coaches pick which events swimmers compete in.  The 2024 Polar Bear Plunge is a great opportunity for swimmers to compete in events that they pick!  It’s also a great chance to enjoy a morning on the mountain at the beautiful Monte Sano Swim Club.  Warmups start at 08:00am\, and concessions will be available for cash only. \nClick Here for more Info!\nFor invitationals\, there is an entry fee.  The Monte Sano Invitational fee is $2 per swimmer plus $2 per event.

DESCRIPTION:This is our Team’s big fundraiser for the year\, and we rely on it to send our swimmers to City Meet\, upgrade our swimming and diving equipment\, and support the Sherwood Swim Club.  In addition to that\, it’s a great time for our swimmers to get some exercise finishing as many laps as they can in 1 hour\, with prizes for the top 3 finishers in each age group.  Pizza will be available for pre-order\, and concessions will be open during the event.
