SUMMARY:Swim-a-Thon!
DESCRIPTION:Support your Sherwood Sharks at an afternoon Swim-a-Thon!  This is a great opportunity for your swimmers to get some exercise while raising money for our swim and dive teams. \nSwimmers will have one hour to swim their laps.  They must stay in the pool but are allowed breaks in the pool if necessary.  When they leave the pool\, their swim-a-thon is done.  The laps will be tracked and posted after the event.  The top 3 swimmers with the most laps in each age group will win a prize!  Concessions will be available during the swim-a-thon. \n \n  \nPledges and flat rate donations should be collected and paid to the swim club by Friday\, June 24th. \n  \n \nFor more information about this year’s Swim-a-Thon\, contact Jamie Andrews or Jessica Driggers.

SUMMARY:Stroke Clinic: Freestyle Breathing and Body Position
DESCRIPTION:There are lots of effective freestyle techniques\, and all of them have two things in common: breathing and body position.  Expelling air underwater to prepare for a breath\, then a quick and minimal turn of the head to take in some air are hallmarks of great freestyle breathing technique.  Breathing technique is important\, but as swimmers\, we spend a lot of time not breathing.  Keeping good body position with the head down and torso in a straight line promotes efficient and fast swimming between breaths. \nBeginning of breath\, one eye underwater\n  \nEnd of breath\, one eye underwater\n  \nHead down with torso in a straight line

SUMMARY:Polar Bear Plunge
DESCRIPTION:The 2023 Stoddard Polar Bear Plunge Invitational is a sanctioned RCSL meet open to all RCSL swimmers.  Each swimmer selects the events he/she wants to swim.  This is a great opportunity for swimmers to participate in events of their choosing\, and there are 100 m distances for each stroke\, including a 100 m Individual Medley event where a swimmer does one length of each stroke during the race.  Your swim/time trials entry gets you: \n\nAccess to the pool grounds and the best view of the Tennessee Valley\nMako Cafe (pancakes\, sausage\, bacon\, hotdogs\, chips\, candy\, coffee\, water\, and soda) Cash only\nIst Place Athletics Booth\nAccess to sand volleyball area\nAccess to tennis courts\n\nParking will be available behind the Monte Sano Methodist Church.  You may walk through the yard to enter the pool grounds. \n \n3609 Georgetta Dr SE\, Huntsville\, Alabama 35801 \nSwimmers may swim up to 4 events of their choosing. \nWarmups begin at 08:00AM and the meet will start at 09:15AM. \nEntry fees are due to Gina Glass no later than 1 June.

SUMMARY:Stroke Clinic: Breaststroke
DESCRIPTION:Breaststroke is the oldest of the swimming strokes.  It is also the hardest stroke to learn\, but it’s this coach’s favorite! \n\nFor Cookiecutter and Lemon sharks\, we will introduce the breaststroke kick (frog kick) and breaststroke arms.\n\nFor Leopard and Hammerhead sharks\, we will work on the sequence and timing of the stroke\, and we will introduce the underwater pullout.\n\n  \n\nFor Tiger\, Great White\, and Mako sharks\, we will work on timing\, sprint technique\, and underwaters.\n\n \n  \n  \n  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Stroke Clinic: Butterfly
DESCRIPTION:Butterfly is the second hardest stroke to learn how to swim\, just behind breaststroke.  It’s by far the most physically demanding\, so learning to swim an efficient butterfly is essential to success with the stroke!  Cookiecutter and Lemon sharks will work on “dolphin” kick and get introduced to the butterfly arm motion.  Leopard\, Hammerhead\, Tiger\, Great White\, and Mako sharks will focus on stroke efficiency with drill work to develop butterfly arm posture\, promote good breathing\, and establish a two-kick rhythm.

DESCRIPTION:Sharks\, it’s time for our 2nd annual Swim-A-Thon!  Last year\, our swimmers had a blast\, and put on an incredible show swimming lap after lap.  This year will be another great one.  A few highlights for this year’s Swim-A-Thon: \n\nSherwood Swim Team is now a 501c3 charity\, and all pledges are tax deductible.  We will provide donation receipts.\nIf your swimmer is not able to join us on the day of the event\, he/she can still participate by counting laps during a regular practice\nThere will be prizes for 1st\, 2nd\, and 3rd place in each age group\n\n \nClick here for the pledge form!\nParents\, we need your help to count laps\, make and sell baked good\, and dish out pizzas!  Without you\, we can’t keep track of our swimmers’ successes and reward them during our swim-a-thon. \nClick here to volunteer
