DESCRIPTION:Sherwood to host Sharon Johnston Swim Team.  This is a “B Meet” that will serve as time trials for the 2022 summer swim season!  A “B Meet” is a practice meet that does not count towards the two splashes required to compete in the annual City Meet. \nBecause this is a “B Meet”\, swimmers will select which strokes they want to swim.  It is encouraged that your swimmer(s) take advantage of the opportunity to swim all four competitive strokes.  For regular season swim meets\, coaches will select which swimmers participate in individual and relay events.  Every swimmer will have the opportunity to swim at least one event in each regular season meet. \nFor new parents\, this practice meet is a great way to give your kids an opportunity to experience the fun and excitement of competition before we kick off the regular season! \nSHER VS SJST B MEET HEAT SHEET\n

DESCRIPTION:The Redstone Arsenal Launchers will host the Sherwood Sharks for our first sanctioned dual meet of the swim season! \nThis meet location is on the Redstone Arsenal military installation\, so there are special instructions for gate access.  If you register for the swim meet before 6:00 PM on Saturday\, 4 June\, then Sherwood Swim Club will submit badge requests on your behalf.  If you register after 4 June\, you will need to submit your own badge request. \nCLICK TO REGISTER FOR SWIM MEET\nGATE ACCESS\nAll visitors (including swimmers) age 16 and up who do not otherwise have access to Redstone Arsenal will need to obtain a visitor’s badge prior to the meet.  Each visitor must pick up their own badge in person.  The badges will be good for the duration of the swim season in case the meet is postponed for weather. \nAll visitors using the temporary badge should enter Redstone Arsenal via Gate 8 (corner of Drake Ave and Patton Rd) for the meet. \nCLICK TO REGISTER FOR VISITOR’S PASS \nLEAVING REDSTONE ARSENAL AFTER 9:00\nGate 8 closes at 9:00 pm.  Please use Gate 9 to exit Redstone Arsenal after 9:00 pm. DESCRIPTION:What are short axis strokes?  Breaststroke and Butterfly!  Swimmers\, get ready to move those hips while we learn the rhythms of breaststroke and butterfly.  These are typically the two hardest strokes to master\, but in one coach’s opinion\, the most rewarding to compete in. \nFun fact: the breaststroke is one of the oldest know swimming strokes\, but the butterfly is relatively new and has only been a recognized stroke since 1952.  In fact\, the butterfly was invented as a way to swim breaststroke faster! \nSession 1 is for Lemon\, Leopard\, and Hammerhead sharks\, and Session 2 is for Tiger\, Great White\, and Mako sharks. \nClick here for Session 1  signup!\nClick here for Session 2 signup!

SUMMARY:Stoddard Polar Bear Plunge Invitational
DESCRIPTION:The 2022 Stoddard Polar Bear Plunge Invitational is a sanctioned RCSL meet open to all RCSL swimmers.  Each swimmer selects the events he/she wants to swim.  This is a great opportunity for swimmers to participate in events of their choosing\, and there are 100 m distances for each stroke\, including a 100 m Individual Medley event where a swimmer does one length of each stroke during the race. \nThe Monte Sano Swim Team is the proud host of the Stoddard Polar Bear Plunge Invitational. This is an ALL day event\, packed with FUN for the entire family.  Your swim/time trials entry get you: \n\nAccess to the pool grounds and the best view of the Tennessee Valley\nMako Cafe (pancakes\, sausage\, bacon\, hotdogs\, chips\, candy\, coffee\, water\, and soda) Cash only\nIst Place Athletics Booth\nAccess to sand volleyball area\nAccess to tennis courts\n\nParking will be available behind the Monte Sano Methodist Church.  You may walk through the yard to enter the pool grounds. \n3609 Georgetta Dr SE\, Huntsville\, Alabama 35801 \nSwimmers may swim up to 4 events of their choosing. \nWarmups begin at 08:00AM and the meet will start at 09:15AM. \nEntry fees are due to Gina Glass no later than 16 June.

SUMMARY:Swim-a-Thon!
DESCRIPTION:Support your Sherwood Sharks at an afternoon Swim-a-Thon!  This is a great opportunity for your swimmers to get some exercise while raising money for our swim and dive teams. \nSwimmers will have one hour to swim their laps.  They must stay in the pool but are allowed breaks in the pool if necessary.  When they leave the pool\, their swim-a-thon is done.  The laps will be tracked and posted after the event.  The top 3 swimmers with the most laps in each age group will win a prize!  Concessions will be available during the swim-a-thon. \n \n  \nPledges and flat rate donations should be collected and paid to the swim club by Friday\, June 24th. \n  \n \nFor more information about this year’s Swim-a-Thon\, contact Jamie Andrews or Jessica Driggers.

DESCRIPTION:Diving off of the blocks at City Meet can improve your time by more than a second.  At Sherwood Swim Club\, we stress the importance of diving off the blocks and provide opportunities for simulated block practice during the week leading up to City Meet.  In addition\, RCSL provides an opportunity for swimmers to practice diving off the blocks at the Huntsville Aquatic Center.  City Meet participants are encouraged to show up for block practice!  No signup necessary.  Just be ready to get on the blocks right at 10:00 AM.

SUMMARY:Stroke Clinic: Freestyle Breathing and Body Position
DESCRIPTION:There are lots of effective freestyle techniques\, and all of them have two things in common: breathing and body position.  Expelling air underwater to prepare for a breath\, then a quick and minimal turn of the head to take in some air are hallmarks of great freestyle breathing technique.  Breathing technique is important\, but as swimmers\, we spend a lot of time not breathing.  Keeping good body position with the head down and torso in a straight line promotes efficient and fast swimming between breaths. \nBeginning of breath\, one eye underwater\n  \nEnd of breath\, one eye underwater\n  \nHead down with torso in a straight line
